What are two quotes from Night by Elie Wiesel and what do they mean?chapters 1 and 2

English
1 answer:
love history [14]3 years ago
7 0

Answer:

Quote 1: Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed. Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the little faces of the children, whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky.

Never shall I forget those flames which consumed my faith forever.

Never shall I forget that nocturnal silence which deprived me, for all eternity, of the desire to live. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget these things, even if I am condemned to live as long as God Himself. Never.

Quote 2

“Where is God? Where is He?” someone behind me asked. ..

For more than half an hour [the child in the noose] stayed there, struggling between life and death, dying in slow agony under our eyes. And we had to look him full in the face. He was still alive when I passed in front of him. His tongue was still red, his eyes were not yet glazed.

Behind me, I heard the same man asking:

“Where is God now?”

And I heard a voice within me answer him:

“Where is He? Here He is—He is hanging here on this gallows. . . .”

How does jane's desire to see the good in everyone differ from elizabeth's judgments?
kirza4 [7]
Jane is a prototype of a sweet, innocent, romantic girl who waits for her prince to come and take her into the sunset. In a way, this is what a girl was supposed to be in the harsh Victorian society. She should exhibit a sweet, angelic nature. On the other hand, Elizabeth is a strong willed individual, who has her own persuasions - or at least aspires to them. She is not a passive observer, but tries to build her own life. Being a complicated person herself, she doesn't readily trust what people say or do. That's why she eventually falls in love with Mr. Darcy, even though he has been repulsive from the very beginning of the novel. But even though in love, she isn't blind; she realizes that they are compatible souls, and that is the main reason she marries him.

vaieri [72.5K]

Answer: "I wanted the ideal animal to hunt," explained the general. "So I said, `What are the attributes of an ideal quarry?' And the answer was, of course, `It must have courage, cunning, and, above all, it must be able to reason."'

Explanation: In literature, a conflict is a struggle between opposite forces, usually it is between a character (the main character or a very important one) and himself (internal conflict), society or another character (external conflict). The Most Dangerous Game is a short story by Richard Connell, which central conflict is about a General named Zaroff, who enjoys hunting humans. From the given options, the quote that best represents this conflict is "I wanted the ideal animal to hunt," explained the general. "So I said, `What are the attributes of an ideal quarry?' And the answer was, of course, `It must have courage, cunning, and, above all, it must be able to reason"' because just humans are able to reason.
