He thought he’d find out, but I saw through this, and answered with ready lie: Poseidon Lord, who sets the earth a-tremble, broke it up on the rocks at your land’s end. A wind from seaward served him, drove us there. We are survivors, these good men and I. The reader is most likely to determine that the Cyclops is not very intelligent.He mentions he"....saw through this..." and also that "...I answered with ready lie.."The narrator considers he could fool the Cyclops and uses the name of a god , the god of the seas, in order to make his misfortune sound  more significant.He sounds as if he wanted to convince the Cyclops of anything that would give him and his men a chance to escape.
