Main cause were British policy in colonies which included heavy taxation, while main effect was the creation of independent of United States.

Explanation:

After French and Indian War Britain continued to impose heavy taxes on colonists, and according to them did not respect their guaranteed rights. Although, they opposed this British ruler and Parliament were deaf to their pleas. That is why war started. It led to American Independence and lost of these territories for Britain.
