Desde un enfoque lógico, existen diferencias entre opinar y argumentar. Opinar, es sencillamente vertir una postura personal. Para llevar a cabo una opinión, no es necesario argumentar empíricamente, es por esto que existen las denominadas ''opiniones infundadas'', las cuales no son válidas para un debate racional (por ejemplo) si son utilizadas ciegamente haciéndose pasar por argumento.


Argumentar, es algo totalmente diferente. Un argumento se define como una cantidad de sentencias con significado definido y alejado de la subjetividad. La argumentación, se centra en la veracidad de las sentencias planteadas, las cuales son denominadas premisas.
