                                        Equality in the workplace

Equality in the workplace means equal job opportunities and fairness for employees and job applicants. You must not treat people unfairly because of reasons protected by discrimination law ('protected characteristics'). For example, because of a person's sex, age or race. The aims of equality and diversity are simple: to ensure that everyone has access to the same opportunities and the same, fair treatment. If you actively promote equality and diversity (and have a policy to match) then your business will thrive and people of all backgrounds can come together and achieve success. The term "equal opportunities" is a broadly used phrase which promotes the idea that everyone within an organization should have an equal chance to apply and be selected for posts, to be trained and/or promoted and to have their employment terminated equally and fairly. Embracing diversity and providing equality goes a long way in promoting a work culture which values talent beyond stereotypes and helps people reach their potential by contributing their best beyond any prejudice. Moreover, an inclusive workplace fosters better productivity and efficiency....
