Read the passage about the Rosetta Stone. A large, heavy package arrived at the scholars’ palace in Cairo. When they opened it,

they found it contained a black stoned slab covered with writing in three different scripts. A note from a French army officer was inside the package saying that the stone had been unearthed in an old fort near the town of Rosetta, thirty-five miles north of Alexandria, Egypt. French soldiers were tearing down a ruined wall in the fort when they came upon the slab. –The Riddle of the Rosetta Stone, James Cross Giblin

Answer:

Chronological order.

Explanation:

Using the process of elimination we can figure out the answer.  Problem and solution?  What is the problem?  There is none.  Compare and contrast?  What are you comparing?  Nothing.  Now it is down to two, chronological order and cause and effect.  In this situation, cause and effect is the least likely.

How does Charlie’s inability to pay rent affect the plot? It causes Charlie to ask Dr. Strauss whether he can return to the lab.
denis-greek [22]

Answer:

It forces Charlie to talk to Mr. Donnegan about being a janitor again.

Explanation:

"Flowers for Algernon" by Daniel Keyes is a short story of how a mentally r e t a rde d man Charlie Gordon grew from being  r e t a rde d to intelligent and then back to his own self. Charlie had always wanted to be intelligent like other people and thus, was selected for a scienti fic experiment which succeeds.

But, not everything was to be permanent. He began to  re g r e ss back to his own self, forgetting things he had learned and even the memories he had in his mind. Towards the end of the story, Charlie had re gressed so much, bringing him back to his r e t a rde d self. And being left with no job or income to sustain himself, he had to ask Mr. Donnegan to let him work as a janitor again. This inability to pay his rent forced him to seek the favor of his former acquaintances/ friends/ boss.
