The supreme court decided that the internment was constitutional and legal because the threat of espionage was greater than their individual rights, so it was constitutional to put people of Japanese descent into internment camps. The court sided with the government with 6-3.
Many Republicans opposed the New Deal as they believed it illegally expanded the Federal Government past what was legally allowed under the Constitution.
