The Virginia Supreme Court has only 7 Justices and as the Highest court in the land, it has limited original jurisdiction in that cases can only generally be heard on appeal from the Court of Appeals.

The Court of Appeals has 11 Judges that listens to cases on appeal from the Circuit Courts as well as the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission.

Virginia Circuit Court ⇒ Judges with or without a jury, original jurisdiction over felonies and bigger civil cases, appeals from general district court trials and JRDC.

The Circuit Court is a Court of original jurisdiction and has said jurisdiction over crimes like felonies and larger civil cases.  They also listen to appeals from the General district courts.
