Roosevelt pushed various reforms as laws passed by Congress as well as presidential executive orders during the first term of his presidency. Agencies like the Works Progress Administration (WPA) and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) were founded in order to create temporary jobs and provided governmental aid to families that had fallen into desperate situations. Citizens were given employment on construction projects to improve the infrastructure nationally and youth were granted positions for example in maintaining and protecting the national forests.
