The Kansas-Nebraska Act that split the Nebraska Territory and created the states of Kansas and Nebraska. This Act happened because during that time there was a huge disagreement over slavery, free states did not want to lose power to slavery states.

The Act allowed setters to decided whether slavery would be allowed within the new state’s borders or not, this brought the Union closer to the Civil War because it caused unbalance and worsened the discussion over slavery.
