For someone to be able to use ethos successfully, they must be an authority in that field - they must have experience or a degree in the area, for example. Thus, if the speaker has credibility in front of the audience, the audience is much more likely to believe what he says.</u> Pathos, the appeal to emotions, and logos, the appeal to logic, do not demand or rely on the speakers credibility, which means they are in disadvantage when compared to ethos. That is why someone would think that ethos is the most important persuasive technique.
