Answer:

George Washington (1732-99) was commander in chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War (1775-83) and served two terms as the first U.S. president, from 1789 to 1797. The son of a prosperous planter, Washington was raised in colonial Virginia.

Martha Washington served as the nation's first first lady and spent about half of the Revolutionary War at the front. She helped manage and run her husbands' estates. She raised her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and for almost 40 years she was George Washington's "worthy partner".

Nathanael Greene was one of the most respected generals of the Revolutionary War (1775-83) and a talented military strategist. As commander of the Southern Department of the Continental army, he led a brilliant campaign that ended the British occupation of the South.

George Rogers Clark is remembered as the heroic Revolutionary War commander who led a small force of frontiersmen through the freezing waters of the Illinois country to capture British-held Fort Sackville at Vincennes during February 1779.

Alexander Hamilton was an impassioned champion of a strong federal government, and played a key role in defending and ratifying the U.S. Constitution. As the first secretary of the U.S. Treasury, Hamilton built a financial foundation for the new nation, against fierce opposition from arch rival Thomas Jefferson.

Which phrase best describes the form of government created by the Constitutional Convention of 1787?
Licemer1 [7]

The correct answer is C) a confederal government that limited government powers.

The phrase that best describes the form of government created by the Constitutional Convention of 1787 is "a confederal government that limited government powers."

The Constitutional Convention was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from May 14 to September 17, 1787. The delegates were present to make important decisions such as the kind of government that America needed. The delegates were there to modify the Articles of Confederation that created a weak central government. The 55 delegated had serious debates on the issue because the federalist led by Alexander Hamilton supported the creation of a strong central government, but the anti-federalists, led by Thomas Jefferson, did not approve the idea of a strong central government because it could turn into tyranny.

Essay Prompt:

An example of an historical turning point was the emergence of the Enlighment era, that led to the creation of democratic states.

The Enlighment movement emerged in Europe during the 18th century and it was constituted by philosophers that promoted Reason and the scientific method over medieval superstition and religious dogmas, and the establishment of democratic societies where the power resided on its people, and not in monarchs or rulers "appointed by God". The resulting states that emerged based on the principles of this movement, enacted bills of civil rights for the first time in history, and implemented principles such as the division of powers or the social contract, through which citizens elected their governors by suffrage.

Such Enlightment principles were transferred to the American colonies, where the population claimed for political representation rather than being governed by foreigners that were appointed by a foreign king. Such claims were ignored and the colonies, influenced by the new democratic principles, started several revolutionary movements for independence aiming to establish new states based on the Enlightment principles such as in Europe.
