Why does the supreme court have its own building?
Naya [18.7K]

After the federal government was established in Washington D.C, the court was placed in the United States Capitol, in a small place in the basement. As the senate expanded and progressively occupied more spaces, the court had to move from one room to another within the capitol on two occasions: first in 1810, to the chamber that left the senate, a space that had to share "with other courts, like the Circuit Court of the United States, and the Orphans Court of the district of Columbia". And again in 1860, when It moved to the today called   "Old senate chamber", where it remained until its current location.

The supreme court remained in the capitol until 1935, except for the period 1812-1817, during which it temporarily left the city of Washington D.C, as a result of the Anglo-american war of 1812. In 1929, the presiding judge, William Howard Taft, got a proper building for the court, with the purpose of distancing itself from congress, as an independent branch of the government, which began to occupy in 1935.

What surprises you about the text " emancipation proclamation "?
forsale [732]

Answer:

It is a surprise that the Emancipation Proclamation didn't include African American slaves that lived in the Union territory, but only included those who lived in the Confederate territories.

Explanation:

The Emancipation Proclamation was an Executive Order proclaimed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1862, that entered into force in 1863 declaring slaves in rebellious southern states and territories freed forever.

The Civil War was a struggle for the preservation of the Union after the southern states had separated. Morale in the south was initially high, and people thought they were fighting for his independence and his own way of life; the right of individual states to set their own laws (including the right to keep slaves) was central.

Although initially President Lincoln was hesitant about the complete abolition of slavery, he changed his mind during the course of the war. He was convinced that slavery had to be abolished in order to win the war. This eventually resulted in the abolition of slavery in the rebellious Confederate States of America.

Although slave owners did not tell their slaves about the proclamation, many found out. More and more slaves escaped and revolted, and everywhere the Northern armies appeared the plantations emptied. This proclamation did not cause slaves to be released immediately, but it was a major step forward. The document stated to the whole world that the civil war was meant to put an end to slavery.

What key middle eastern leader took a moderate approach toward israel, which ended up costing him his life?
Ann [662]
President Anwar Sadat of Egypt had worked together with Israel's prime minister Menachem Begin, at the urging of US President Jimmy Carter.  They met at Camp David in the US for 12 days in September of 1978, and worked out the Camp David Accords.  Egypt and Israel later signed the Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty in March of 1979 -- a peace between Egypt and Israel that has lasted to the present day.

Sadat, however, paid a price for his peace efforts.  Islamist activists in Egypt heatedly opposed him because of his moderation.  Sadat was assassinated in October, 1981.
