The revolutionary war which was a conflict with the colonies was misunderstood by the British leaders due to the fact that they didn't took the matter seriously. They never intended to morally help the colonists at that time.
In Egypt and other ancient civilizations, people were/are mummified to preserve then put in tombs.
During modern times in the U.S., however people are embalmed and buried six feet under the ground.
It was an attempt to assist the French in their recovery from WWII. In retrospect.
