Answer:

Korea was divided into two because of Korean peninsula.

The Korean peninsula was exposed in the war and something had need to be done. When the Korean empire was in defeat the Korean peninsula was all alone so it needed to have been moderated, that is why they divided it into two one part for the US and the other for Russia. They had needed to divide it  because there was no one who was going to take control so the US and the Russians decided to agree on that one part belonged to them and the other to them.
