Reading the story now, one can clearly see that Tom was not guilty of the crime. The story was written in such a way that there was no way Tom was guilty, but the jury decided him guilty anyway. Why? There is only one answer and that is because Tom was black and Mayella was white. If the jury's eyes were not so clouded by race, then they would see that it was physically impossible for Tom to do the things that he was accused of when he could not catch a cup with his (left or right I don't remember) hand.
