The question is incomplete, and the full version can be found on CommonLit.

Answer:

PART A:

C. The Klan formed to fight against Reconstruction policies that gave citizenship and rights to freed blacks.

PART B:

A. “The Klan targeted Republican leaders and blacks trying to exercise their new rights.”

Explanation:

The Ku Klux Klan arise during Reconstruction, not after it. It didn´t arise to seek more protection for white people, nor to provide order to turbulent states. They were against the Radical Republicans that had overcome the white Southern Democrats and allowed blacks to vote and hold political office. In the article, the relationship between the Ku Klux Klan and the Reconstruction becomes clear when it´s stated that they "targeted Republican leaders and blacks trying to exercise their new rights,"

Identify the word in the excerpt that has a connotative meaning and explain, in at least 150 words, the significance of the word
mash [69]

The connotative word for me is PITIFULLY or pitifully young. This means very young and it refers to the woman in the text.

It would seem that the words used invoked negative emotions because the narrator is saying that the girl is very young to be married. It would seem as though the narrator is questioning the rightness of the bride's decision of getting married at a very young age.
