Harold is a woodworker and is interested in finding the density of two different types of wood. He bought a pine log that has a

5-inch radius and is 30 inches long. The weight of the log is approximately 42.63 pounds. He also has an oak board that is 5.5 inches wide, 1.5 inches thick and 3 feet long. The board weighs approximately 8.05 pounds.

Equation for Density = Mass / Volume

Solving for density of log:
radius = 5 inches
Area of a circle = pi(radius)^2 = (3.1415)(25 inches squared) = 78.53 inches squared
volume = area * length = (78.53 inches sqrd)(30 inches) = 2,356.125 cubic inches
log density = 42.63 lbs / (2,356.125 inches sqrd) = 0.018 lbs/ cubic inch

Solving for density of Oak Board:
volume = (5.5 inch)(1.5 inch)(36 inch) = 297 cubic inches
board density = 8.05 lbs / 297 cubic inches = 0.027 lbs/cubic inch

Compare -3.5 and -3 1/4. Use <,>, or =.
____ [38]

Answer:

-3.5 < -3 1/4

Step-by-step explanation:

Since both are negative numbers in this case, we need to find the number closest to zero. But first we need to make sure both the numbers are in the same format. One is in decimal while the other is in fraction form.

-3.5 is also -3 1/2 or -3 2/4

-3 1/4 is also -3.25

seeing how -3 1/4 is closer to zero by .25, that makes it the greater number compared to -3.5

If f(x) = -1x + 1and g(x) = x4, what is (f º g)(x)?
Scilla [17]

Answer:

(f º g) = -x^4+1

Step-by-step explanation:

So it's important to note that the notation: "(f º g)" isn't f(x) * g(x), it's a composite function, where you essentially have two functions, with one of the functions being the argument of one of the functions.

This means we can plug in the function g(x) as x into the function f. So let's do that

Original Function:

f(x) = -1x + 1

Plug in x^4 (this is the value of g(x)) as x into the function

f(g(x)) = -(x^4)+1

Distribute the negative sign

f(g(x)) = -x^4+1
