Answer:

It was a rainy day but, Joan and I had planned a trip. Joan wanted to go to the beach for a swim. I wasn't sure if we should go.

"I think we should wait a little longer, at least until the rain shows some signs of slowing down," I suggested.

"We can't swim without getting wet anyway," replied Joan, questioning my choice of swimsuit, the one my mom had bought at a secondhand store.

Explanation:

The best option to complete the parts where punctuation is missing is a comma.

1. It was a rainy day, but Joan and I had... --> commas are placed before the conjunction joining two independent clauses, as is the case here.

2. "I think we should wait a little longer, at least until... --> this type of usage is commonly justified as avoiding confusion. The way we read the sentence without the comma changes, and can cause confusion.

3. questioning my choice of swimsuit, the one my mom had bought... --> commas are used before phrases or clauses that somehow offer an explanation or further information about something previously mentioned. In this case, the speaker is offering further information about the swimsuit.

Note: For case 3, I believe a dash is also an option, since it can come before an explanation or further information as well. Still, a comma is usually preferred.

How has American changed over time? How has America's treatment of Native Americans changed over time? In what ways does America
MA_775_DIABLO [31]

America has changed over time in many different ways. For example, America has become more multicultural. Although America always had people of different nations, the trend is even more significant now, as people from almost every nation of the world live in America. We have also become more accepting of this, with laws that outlaw segregation and discrimination.

America's treatment of Native American people has also changed over time. During the early years of the country, Native Americans suffered greatly from loss of land, death, discrimination and poverty. In recent years, the government has tried to solve many of these problems by giving Native Americans citizenship, as well as more autonomy.

However, these problems are far from being solved. America still has a long way to go before Native Americans achieve full equality. Native Americans would benefit from better education. They also need more autonomy over their resources, and for their cultural legacy to be more protected.

Answer:

Poems lend themselves to different interpretations.

Explanation:

Poems offer a sense of mystery by not giving the reader a clear idea of how the poem was intended to be interpreted, and instead leaving it up to the audience to figure out the poem's meaning.
