लक्ष्मण- आप तो बार-बार मेरे लिए काल (मौत) को बुलाए जा रहे हैं। यहां पर रचियता गोस्वामी तुलसीदास लक्ष्मण के उग्र स्वभाव से हमें परिचित कराते हैं। लक्ष्मण जी का पाला परशुरामजी से पड़ा था जो अपने गुरु शिव के धनुष को श्री राम द्वारा तोङ दिये जाने से अति क्रोधित हुए जा रहे थे। उनकी वेदना को लक्ष्मण समझ नहीं पा रहे थे और वे परशुराम की ईंट का जवाब पत्थर से दे रहे थे। इसीलिये परशुराम द्वारा बार-बार फरसा दिखाने पर लक्ष्मण परशुराम को उकसाने हेतु व्यंग्य वाणी में उनसे कह पड़ते हैं-आप तो बार-बार मेरे लिए काल (मौत)को बुलाये जा रहे हैं।

परशुराम- तुम जैसे धृष्ट बाल के लिए यही उचित है। यहाँ पर लक्ष्मण जी के उपरोक्त ढंग से परशुराम को जवाब देने से परशुराम उन्हें उनकी हद बताते हैं। वे लक्ष्मण जी को एक हठी बालक कहकर संबोधित करते हैं। और उन्हें इशारों ही इशारों में नासमझ भी कह डालते हैं। लक्ष्मण जी के लिए परशुराम अपना व्यवहार उचित ठहराते हैं और इसिलिए वे ऐसा कह उठते हैं।

लक्ष्मण- काल कोई आपका नौकर है जो आपके बुलाने से भागा-भागा चला आएगा। यहां पर लक्ष्मण पुनः परशुराम की उन्हें हठी बालक ठहराने की बात पर उनके गुस्से को और भड़काने के उद्देश्य से ही उन्हें ऐसा कहते हैं और लक्ष्मण जी द्वारा ऐसा करने के पीछे एकमात्र कारण परशुरामजी द्वारा धनुष तोड़ने वाले यानि उनके बड़े भाई राम को दण्ड देने के बारे में भरी सभा में उद्घोषणा करने को लेकर है।
