The United States government was afraid that the Soviet Union would generate a revolution in the western European countries and which would eventually reach United States soil and therefore they had to fight the Cold War. The Soviet Union used the veto power 18 times to protect their national interest against the United States. Many more vetoes were used because of Cold War and anti-Communist actions taken by the Western states. Soviet Union had veto power since February 16th, 1946—when the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) cast the first veto on a draft resolution regarding the withdrawal of foreign troops from Lebanon and Syria. I am not sure, that Cold War could have been prevented if Soviet Union did not have veto powers but rather if Truman and Stalin had not gotten into so many arguments. The Cold War was a state of political and military tension after World War II between powers in the Western Bloc (the United States, its NATO allies, and others) and powers in the Eastern Bloc (the Soviet Union and its satellite states ).

Compare and contrast how britain and france ruled their colonies
Amiraneli [1.4K]

Answer:

Britain followed the indirect rule in the colonies, where local rulers helped in collocation taxes and goods along with law and regulations.

The French exercised direct control through their officials and soldiers.

Explanation:

The rise of the imperialism in Europe started because of the Industrial Revolution, which led the Europeans nations to establish colonies outside its continent. The colonies were essential for the empires because they required raw materials for industries. Colonies became markets for manufacturing goods. Both France and Britain establish colonies across Asia, Africa and America. The governing regulations of both countries were different, even though they required colonies for economic benefits. The British relied on indirect rule in the colonies where the local rulers govern and collect taxes and goods for England. The French exercised direct control as they sent officials and soldiers from France to rule the colony.

What does the origin of many of the routes demonstrate about Europe and the Crusades?
USPshnik [31]
The Crusades stopped the entire known world (including Europe) from becoming completely Muslim.

Muslim armies had conquered much of northern Africa, Egypt, Palestine, Syria, and Spain, which had been some of the most heavily Christian areas in the world.

Thousands, and possibly millions, of Christians died during this drive to eventually bring the entire world under Islam.

The First Crusade was launched in 1095 by Pope Urban II to check the advance of the Muslims and regain control of the city of Jerusalem and the Holy Land.

If this defensive war was not fought then we would probably all be Muslim today.

I am sure that some atrocities were committed by individuals of both sides during this war but by most people's judgment this was a just war.
