The main focus of the essay is that authors a journey to becoming a literate. Who else is going through a similar “journey”, and
PSYCHO15rus [73]

Answer:

Adult illiteracy isn't often spoken about compared to other subjects, but it is so important.

Explanation: Thousands of people today are struggling with reading because of their childhoods and where they live. A similar person that dealt with illiteracy was Amelia Sandoval. As a child her parents never valued education and she dropped out of school in fifth grade. Her childhood was a disaster and she wound up in jail. After getting straightened up, she realized how different of a life she should've lived and what she should change.  As soon as she got out of jail sandoval got an education, and knew that it was the first step to improve herself. Amelia isn't the only one struggling with illiteracy, and not everyone has access to knowledge. "I had no regular teacher"(Douglass 1). Just like Amelia, Frederick didn't go to school, he couldn't just get an education like we can today

Why did Chan's dad compare a motorcycle to a cat? The engine sounded like a cat purring. They both can have a dangerous side. A
kirill115 [55]

Answer:

The first one is the correct answer.

Explanation:

He always compared the engine to the sound of a cat purring. The word definition for purring is: a low tonal, continual, fluttery sound made by some animal to show or to express a level of contentment or pleasure. For example, cats purr a lot when they are in a state of peace or when they are happy. I guess that is the reason why the motorcycle sound reminded Chan's dad of a cat.

Part A Read these sentences from "The Cask of Amontillado." "Enough," he said; "the cough is a mere nothing; it will not kill me
nata0808 [166]

Answer:

Part A: foreshadowing

Part B: to build suspense

Explanation:

In the sentences from "The Cask of Amontillado," the author Edgar Allan Poe makes use of foreshadowing as a warning of the future events in which Montresor murders Fortunato by immurement. In that respect, the dampness of the cellar makes Fortunato cough first, so his expression that he will not die because of a cough creates uncertainty. In fact, coughing involves expelling air, which he will lack after Montresor entombs him. Besides, Montresor pretends to be worried about Fortunato's health, when in fact he intends to kill him.
