Which of the following sentences exhibits proper parallelism?
Svet_ta [14]

Answer:

The sentence with the best elements of parallelism of the examples provided is Option B.  Science may be challenging, but it is also rewarding; reading might be time-consuming, but it is also enlightening.

Explanation:

Parallelism is a property of the way your sentences are structured in a piece of writing. It is usually a property that is particularly important when providing lists in something you write.  All points on a list should start with a word in the same format, i.e. the listed elements should all start with a noun -- or a verb, if that is the case -- but not a mixture of those two elements.  You see this mistake a lot on peoples resumes when they are listing things.  Option B is best because "reading" is treated like the noun "science" in this case.  Another example of the work "reading" being treated like a noun would be: "I have done the reading." Both sentences use the verb in the present progressive form in the second independent clause ending each sentence. That is another way they are parallel.  There are other grammatical similarities that could be considered parallelsim in this example too!

irinina [24]

Answer:

1. Wes' mother Joy simply wanted her son to attend a private school instead of the public schools. But the segregation suffered by Wes made him lose focus, and his mother decided to send him to a Military school.

2. It was a good investment that Wes' mother made, for the military school made Wes more disciplined and kept him away from the bad influences in his former neighborhood.

Explanation:

The book, The Other Wes Moore tells the story of two personalities named Wes. Wes whose mother was Joy had moved from Jamaica to The United States. She wanted her children to get a quality education. When she realized that the public schools were no longer in good condition she opted for a private school. The private school made her son relate with the rich kids and this made the kids in the neighborhood unhappy with Wes.

His mother noticed the distractions Wes faced, and so, she changed him to a military school. She borrowed money from family and friends to make this possible. This was a good investment because Wes succeeded in the military school and attained a good rank.
