What is one way the emperor qian long responds to king george III's messengers?
kicyunya [14]

One of the ways the emperor Quianlong responds to king George III's messengers was B. He denies a meeting with the British ambassador.

In the mid-eighteen century, the emperor Quianlong began to face severe pressures from the West to increase foreign trade, however he refused to the proposed cultural exchange between the English empire and his.

Mainly influenced by Heshen, the Chinese Emperor kept the belief that the Qing Empire was the center of the world and didn't need to pay attention to the English empire proposal. So once King George III sent George Macartney ,the British ambassador at the time, Quianlong refused to meet the British ambassador.

And George Macartney was humiliated by the Qing Emperor, when he was apparently granted an audience with him and arrived to the place just to realized that the emperor wasn't there and didn't have intention to show up. Instead the British ambassador found an Imperial Edict placed on the Dragon Throne.

That edict informed him that the Qing Empire had no need for any goods and services the British could provide and that they should recognize the Qing Empire was far greater than the British Empire.
