I believe the answer is (b): prudent.

Explanation:

A philanthropist is someone who wants to promote a groups' or someone's well being, and commonly one becomes a philanthropist when the donate a large sum of money.

Prudent means to show care and appreciation for the future.  This is the closest description of what a philanthropist is or could be.
