advantages:

- everything was more spread out. People had more privacy.  People had the right to choose, on their own plot.

- more self sufficient, everyone had their own duties.

- provided food and  money to people.

disadvantages:

- serfs couldn't get help as easily, and deprived them of the money they deserved.

-people couldn't move up or down on the social status
