In Act I Scene 5 lines 59-54, the ghost of King Hamlet tells his son that his uncle was the one that murdered him by pouring poison in his ear.

The literal meaning of this is that Claudius poison his brother and King Hamlet. The poison was introduced to his body through his ear. This is very interesting, especially because usually poison is given to a person in a drink, but Shakespeare was trying to say something beyond with this.

The symbolic meaning of this is connected with the fact that words (which we listen and enter our ears) can also be like poison and they can actually kill us. In fact, this is what happens to Prince Hamlet, the words uttered by the ghost of his father end up working like poison, they will force him to find revenge to the point in which he will find his own death.

konstantin123 [22]

The opening scene in Antigone between Antigone and Ismene sparks the play's action (A.) by revealing Antigone's plan of burying her brother against the king's orders.

Sophocles' play Antigone starts with a dialogue between Antigone and her sister Ismene, where Antigone tells her that she is determined to bury Polynices, their brother, despite Creon's orders. Ismene tells her sister that she will not help her to bury him and tries to convince Antigone to respect the law because Creon had ordered to condemn to death to anyone that dared to bury Polynices since he had been a 'traitor'. Therefore, while Ismene is submissive to the king, Antigone decides to break the law and pay obedience to a higher religious law instead.

Answer: I think what will happen in the book is that Ponyboy will be deeply affected by Johnny's death and his last words. Ponyboy's last words were "stay gold." To Ponyboy that meant treasure your childhood and stay innocent as long as you can. I think "stay gold" is referring to a sunrise-to-sunset. That gold moment in the morning only happens for about 3 minutes. It goes by quickly.
