She also finds him a great book to pass the time and gives him her lunch when she notices he hasn't eaten. The librarian isn't really a guide for Bud, but is a helper character.

The library becomes a home to Bud when he doesn't have one. It is a connection to his past, and an escape from his present. The librarians get to know him and appreciate him, and they nurture his mind and body. Like the woman who remembered his mother, they look out for him.
