<u>What was the main goal of the Red Brigades?</u>
Formed in Italy by Renato Curcio in the 1970s, the <u>Red Brigades</u> was a leftist organization, whose main goal was to <u>weaken the Italian state</u> to open the doors to a proletarian ruler. After their formation, they started targeting, kidnapping and murdering political figures.
The group was slowly disbanded through the continuous arrests during the 1970s and 1980s.
The final steps to secession included:
-Attack on Harpers Ferry
-Southern states' refusal to put Lincoln on the ballot
-Election of Abraham Lincoln-->southern states felt their interests were not represented and their rights weren't recognised
-Incumbent President Buchanan did nothing to stop secession movement from gaining momentum
-Rejection by Lincoln of Crittendon Compromise
-Deep South seceded, and Upper South followed.
The idea of popular sovereignty as it pertains to the extension of slavery to the territories in the antebellum era was a political concept that allowed the residents of the territories themselves, rather than Congress, to determine whether to permit or prohibit slavery
