According to "Superhuman" by Nicola Yoon, the superhero X decides that he's given up on humanity and decides to destroy everyone.
However, he gives everyone three days to bring someone to convince him of doing otherwise. The President sends Syrita to convince him because she was the first person he ever saved.
Syrita discovers during the discussion with X that he was shot by a cop for being black and then lost his faith in humanity.
Syrita understands his dilemma and she convinces him not to destroy everyone by falling backwards from a very tall building thereby forcing X to save her and prove that humanity is worth saving.
