Answer:

Lady Bertilak tempts Gawain to sin with her, manipulating the tropes of courtly love to do so. ... Here, Lady Bertilak suggests that Gawain disobeys the chivalric code if he does not sleep with her. But then she gives him an escape route: If he already committed himself to someone else, he could not be with her.

Hoochie [10]
I am thinking that you have to go through some bad things in life and face difficult circumstances, in order to then learn from them and come out better on the other side. You suffer, but if you push through it and grow stronger and better, good things will happen because of your circumstances, so in some way you become blessed. When you have lived through some tough times, you can actually see how could you have it - so you are blessed.

For those who are afraid of public speaking, taking a test, or being embarrassed in public, picture yourself in that situation.
skelet666 [1.2K]

Answer:

Imagine sweating on a stage, having a million and one people looking at you on a stage, and you have to present a speech to everyone carefully staring you down. And suddenly, you forget your lines!! You start sweating up and down, nervously laughing, shuffling your feet, doing anything you can to avoid this embarrassment. And the only help anyone can offer is to "imagine everyone in their underwear." That's going to make me more nervous! What helps me tremendously is to take a huge breath and tap a little beat with my fingers on my thigh and sing a little beat in my head. Then, I take myself back to all those times I practiced my lines, and what I said when I was practicing them. And automatically, it always helps me to remember!

how does Updike bring meaning to the poem, "Ex-Basketball Player", and to the character by naming him Flick?
neonofarm [45]

Answer:

Updike has carefully brought the meaning to the poem and to the character by naming him Flick, which means a quick and sudden movement.

Explanation:

'Ex-Basketball Player' is a poem written by John Updike. The poem is about a character named 'Flick Webb' who used to be basketball star in his high school but now serves as a gas station attendant.

The poem brings the meaning that one should not remain the past glory of life and must move on. Flick used to be a basketball star in his high school but after that moment of life gets over he is just 'Flick' who, now, should think of life ahead of him. But he remains stick to his past glory.

"Flick' means a quick and sudden movement. By naming the character 'Flick', Updike brings out the message that life goes on in a flick moment of time and thus one should remain prepared for it. But, in the poem, 'Flick' was not prepared for life ahead and remained a slave of past glory as an 'Ex-Basketball Player.' Because 'Flick' perceived that his glory will remain forever, he never learned other skills to help him for his future, that's why now he serves as a gas station attendant.
