The Prioress is trying to be very, well, dainty. She has all these funny habits, like singing through her nose, speaking incorrect French, and eating so carefully that she never spills a drop. She does these things, Chaucer tells us, because she "peyned hir to countrefete cheere / of court" (139 – 140), or tries very hard to seem courtly. When she sees a mouse caught in a trap, she weeps, perhaps believing that this is how a damsel of the court would behave. Of course, two lines later, we learn that she has no problem feeding her hounds flesh, so her weeping over the trapped mouse is probably, like most of her habits, an affectation – a behavior the Prioress adopts to seem a certain way (in this case, like a courtly damsel), but which doesn't really reveal her true feelings.

What is the most likely reason the author mentions problems in the publishing industry in paragraph 1? Support your answer with
nata0808 [166]

Considering the passage's content, the most likely reason the author mentions problems in the publishing industry in a paragraph is to let the reader know that "<u>there is still opportunity in the publishing industry despite current problems."</u>

Here, the author is trying to let the reader knows that currently, there are problems that need to be solved in the publishing industry. However, despite these problems, there is abundant opportunity in the publishing industry.

This was revealed when the author said that "<em><u>Despite reports to the contrary, this is a great time to be in publishing</u></em>."

Hence, in this case, it is concluded that the correct answer is "<u>there is still opportunity in the publishing industry despite current problems."</u>

In this excerpt from act I, scene II, of Macbeth, what can be inferred from Banquo’s response to the witches’ prophecy?
iren [92.7K]

Answer:

Banquo's response to the witches' prophecy suggests that Banquo realizes that the witches represent evil.

While having a conversation with Macbeth (Act I, Scene 3), Macbeth tells Banquo that he should believe that his children will become kings, as they were promised so by the witches. Banquo replies that the whole thing about them is <em>strange</em>, implying that he would not be so certain about their good intentions. Banquo refers to the witches as <em>'the instruments of darkness'</em>, that partially tell people the truth in order to destroy them.
