Residents in a city are charged for water usage every three months. The water bill is computed from a common fee, along with the

amount of water the customers use. The last water bills for 40 neighborhood residents are displayed in the histogram below.
A histogram titled Neighborhood Monthly water bill has monthly water bill (dollars) on the x-axis and frequency on the y-axis. 100 to 125, 1; 125 to 150, 2; 150 to 175, 5; 175 to 200, 10; 200 to 225, 13; 225 to 250, 8.

Which interval contains the median water bill?

$150–$175
$175–$200
$200–$225
$225–$250

The sum of two terms of gp is 6 and that of first four terms is 15/2.Find the sum of first six terms.
Gnoma [55]

Given:

The sum of two terms of GP is 6 and that of first four terms is \dfrac{15}{2}.

To find:

The sum of first six terms.

Solution:

We have,

S_2=6

S_4=\dfrac{15}{2}

Sum of first n terms of a GP is

S_n=\dfrac{a(1-r^n)}{1-r}              ...(i)

Putting n=2, we get

S_2=\dfrac{a(1-r^2)}{1-r}

6=\dfrac{a(1-r)(1+r)}{1-r}

6=a(1+r)                    ...(ii)

Putting n=4, we get

S_4=\dfrac{a(1-r^4)}{1-r}

\dfrac{15}{2}=\dfrac{a(1-r^2)(1+r^2)}{1-r}

\dfrac{15}{2}=\dfrac{a(1+r)(1-r)(1+r^2)}{1-r}

\dfrac{15}{2}=6(1+r^2)            (Using (ii))

Divide both sides by 6.

\dfrac{15}{12}=(1+r^2)

\dfrac{5}{4}-1=r^2

\dfrac{5-4}{4}=r^2

\dfrac{1}{4}=r^2

Taking square root on both sides, we get

\pm \sqrt{\dfrac{1}{4}}=r

\pm \dfrac{1}{2}=r

\pm 0.5=r

Case 1: If r is positive, then using (ii) we get

6=a(1+0.5)

6=a(1.5)

\dfrac{6}{1.5}=a

4=a

The sum of first 6 terms is

S_6=\dfrac{4(1-(0.5)^6)}{(1-0.5)}

S_6=\dfrac{4(1-0.015625)}{0.5}

S_6=8(0.984375)

S_6=7.875

Case 2: If r is negative, then using (ii) we get

6=a(1-0.5)

6=a(0.5)

\dfrac{6}{0.5}=a

12=a

The sum of first 6 terms is

S_6=\dfrac{12(1-(-0.5)^6)}{(1+0.5)}

S_6=\dfrac{12(1-0.015625)}{1.5}

S_6=8(0.984375)

S_6=7.875

Therefore, the sum of the first six terms is 7.875.

How to calculate the diameter of cylinder if you are given volume of 1000Litre and 224cm height
Afina-wow [57]

well, let's first notice, all our dimensions or measures must be using the same unit, so could convert the height to liters or the liters to centimeters, well hmm let's convert the volume of 1000 litres to cubic centimeters, keeping in mind that there are 1000 cm³ in 1 litre.

well, 1000 * 1000 = 1,000,000 cm³, so that's 1000 litres.

\textit{volume of a cylinder}\\\\ V=\pi r^2 h~~ \begin{cases} r=radius\\ h=height\\[-0.5em] \hrulefill\\ V=1000000~cm^3\\ h=224~cm \end{cases}\implies \stackrel{cm^3}{1000000}=\pi r^2(\stackrel{cm}{224}) \\\\\\ \cfrac{1000000}{224\pi }=r^2\implies \sqrt{\cfrac{1000000}{224\pi }}=r\implies \cfrac{1000}{\sqrt{224\pi }}=r\implies \stackrel{cm}{37.7}\approx r

now, we could have included the "cm³ and cm" units for the volume as well as the height in the calculations, and their simplication will have been just the "cm" anyway.
