Magicians are manipulators, and not of coins or fish, as they would like you to believe, but of the human brain. They know how we see things, and more importantly, how we sometimes don’t notice some things. Motion is a large part of those tiny details that allow them to distract our attention from what what they want to do, to what they want us to think they are doing. As Neil Degrasse Tyson said, our brains might be just a little too sensitive to motion. As was shown, his mind tricked him into believing that he saw a coin being thrown, but really that is just our brain’s way of filling in the blanks so as to help us. But instead of being helpful, some people have found a way to use that to their benefit.
