The Rite of Spring was based on Russian culture...

So, I am going to go with A. a pagan ritual.

It is a ballet and orchestral concert work by the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky. Stravinsky's “Rite of Spring” depicts pagan rituals that culminate in the sacrifice of a young woman, whose death is intended to appease or pacify the gods of spring.

I hope this helps :)
