This is mainly due to the economic factor, and the United States are not a country that accepts any downfall in its economy, especially not if it doesn't have to. This also causes a lot of controversy because it is damaging the environment, and while lots of developed countries are focusing on the usage of the renewable energy resources, the United States refuse to do so even though they are one of the two biggest polluters in the world.
