Modernism is one period of major literary movement which began in the 17th century that made the transition from a feudal system to capitalism.

It was well known by its scientific worldview and progressive discourses and logic.

Modernism began around 1870-1920 which was around the time of the second industrial revolution and witnessed a sharp decline of the social class, and urbanization.

Literary modernism is the period when there was a general feeling of dissatisfaction with the Victorian era of conservatism and belief in objectivity.

This period is popularly referred to the cultural phenomena associated with the effects of WWII.

Some prominent postmodern writers include Hunter Thompson, Henry Miller, William Burrough, Agatha Christie, etc.

Some of the characteristics of Postmodernism:

Use of ironic narrator

Use of open land intertextual iterature

Use of simple language

Makes a parody of literary conventions
