Answer: Trouble is brewing in California. Gold has been discovered in the Arctic, and everyone is rushing to the Northland, looking to cash in on the find. Men are looking for big dogs strong enough to toil endlessly and withstand the bitter cold. Enter Buck, one such dog, and the main character of Jack London's tale. Buck lives in the home of Judge Miller in Santa Clara Valley. The house is large and spacious, and the grounds are beautifully laid out with orchards and gardens. For his entire life, Buck has lived here in splendor. Other dogs are present, but Buck is above them all. Buck is the king of his domain, believing himself the benign master of everyone, including his humans. He is neither a house-dog nor a kennel dog but goes where he wishes. The whole realm belongs to him. He escorts the Judge's daughters on walks; he hunts with his sons, carries his grandchildren on his back. A mix of St. Bernard and Scotch Shepard, Buck weighs only 140 pounds. He is not as large as his father was, but he carries himself like a king. Hunting and walking keep him fit, and he rejoices in sport and play.

What is the main purpose of "Eileen Collins – NASA's First Female Shuttle Commander to Lead Next Shuttle Mission"?
Anuta_ua [19.1K]

The main purpose is to:

highlight for readers the hardships that Eileen Collins overcame

Explanation:

"Eileen Collins – NASA's First Female Shuttle Commander to Lead Next Shuttle Mission" is a text that bases itself not on the facts of the mission or the the journey of the protagonist once she becomes the shuttle commander.

The story instead focuses on how she overcame bias and odds to become what she has become.

It is a story of her struggles and trials and tribulations that have brought her this far in life.

Read the sentence from paragraph 10 of "Routine"
Doss [256]

The impact that the speaker's remark has on the story is this: C. It reinforces the need for the speaker to find the reasons to change from within.

What is the impact of the speaker's remarks?

The speaker's remarks in the story point to the fact that often, we spend our time seeking solutions to problems that we hold the power to. In this passage, it is quite clear that Dorothy spent a lot of time seeking help from other sources when she had the power to effect the change that she sought.

This reinforces the point that sometimes, all we need is a critical evaluation of our present needs and introspection that will help us to resolve our problems by ourselves. So, instead of wasting time and resources seeking help in other places, we are supposed to look within to find the help that we seek.
