Answer: The lapse rate can be defined as the rate at which the temperature changes when one moves upward from the earth's atmosphere.

Explanation:

The main difference between the positive lapse rate and negative lapse rate. The lapse rate is positive in case the one goes to the elevation and the temperature decreases. But the temperature increases with the elevation. This is called temperature inversion and if the temperature increases then it is the negative lapse rate.
