Answer:

The spread of smallpox throughout Tenochtitlan severely weakened the Aztec people and helped the Spanish in there final their final battle against the city. Smallpox destroyed Native communities that, with no immunity, were unable to fight off the virus. Smallpox also entered the colonies on slave ships, transmitted by enslaved people who, in packed and unsanitary quarters, passed the disease along to one another and, eventually, to colonists at their destinations. Native Americans who experienced the early smallpox epidemics did not know how to respond effectively and did exacerbate mortality rate; however, as time progressed and interaction with Europeans increased, indigenous knowledge of the disease increased, enabling them to avoid the disease as effectively as was possible.
