A writing prompt is defined as a word, phrase, or paragraph that motivates the writer to jot down ideas.

A writer effectively addresses a writing prompt when he or she is able to create an article, essay, short story, or novel based on the writing prompt.

A writing prompt is simply a nudge to make the writer start writing about a topic or idea. When the writer is able to complete the project, he or she has effectively addressed the writing prompt and can be motivated to do more.
