If cells are placed in a hypertonic solution containing a solute to which the membrane is impermeable, what could happen?
finlep [7]

Answer: A

The cells would lose water and shrink. In a hypertonic solution, the concentration of solute is higher than water in a cell. With this, there is a net movement of water from inside to outside initiating water to lose from the cytoplasm and vacuole causing the cell to shrink due to osmosis and achieve equilibrium.

This process is applied in food preservation where microbial cells will be dehydrated in a hypertonic environment, making them malfunction and preventing them to cause food spoilage.

The number of drunk driving fatalities has _____ in the last twenty-five years.
trapecia [35]
Just by using current knowledge of our society today, this question explains itself for the answer choice of A. Teens think that they are capable of driving even though they only had "a few drinks". This is also the case with adults, because not all adults are responsible. Hope this helped!

List two reasons why amphibians must live in moist environments 2. In what ways are the three groups of amphibians similar? diff
levacccp [35]
The three groups of amphibians: Frogs, Salamanders, Caecilians are different when they reach adulthood. Frogs have four legs with strong hind legs and no tails. Salamanders have tails and four short, weak legs that cause them to walk instead of jump. Lastly, Cacilians have no legs and are burrowing animals.
Amphibians must live in moist environments because they loose water through their thin skin. They need to be near water to replenish the lost water. Also their skin helps them breathe and they can get oxygen from the water.
