President Jefferson's era extended from about the 1790's until the 1820's. His legacy promoted the ideals of citizens having the duty of protecting America, the importance of economic independence, the duty of citizens to vote for their beliefs, the separation of church and state, the US Constitution able to interpreted by current society, all men have the right to be informed, and having alliances but not intervening unless directly effected in other countries' wars.

These Jeffersonian values persisted into the Era of Good feelings wherein Americans kept to many of these aforementioned ideals and a focus on national expansion and strengthening. A feeling of national rejoicing and happiness replaced prior bitter feelings and political divisions.
