They were very good at hunting, gathering, fishing and trading and they were clever at gaining land which they used for farming. They gained land in battle but they also built small artificial islands in Lake Texcoco, where they had settled. Aztec art and architecture is amongst the finest ever produced in Mesoamerica. The Aztec civilization was also highly developed socially, intellectually and artistically. It was a highly structured society with a strict caste system; at the top were nobles, while at the bottom were serfs, indentured servants and enslaved workers
