Although the story is not at all serious because of how it is written, the background, the topic of the story is really serious. It's about consumerism and it's set in a future where humans have destroyed the Earth and the people that survived leave the Earth to live somewhere else. However, the story is also told in an ironically way, it's about how thousands of years later everyone finds the Earth boring and they only visit the Gift Shop.
