The leadership of the party takes care of directives and makes political decisions that imply in the positioning of the party in relation to the economic and institutional issues of the country.

Jackson supported the right of white men to land access in the Southeast. Though the Cherokee had assimilated, owned land, and had created a democratic government they were still not white and therefore not fully accepted by the American people or society. The labor question or labor problem was a concern in the late 19th century correlated to the life of the middle class in regards to working conditions, wages, and job security. By the second half of the 19th century, the United States was already well into the industrial revolution. This bought immense changes to work opportunity as big business profited more from increased production by machine and cut into workers opportunity who may be replaced by machine.
The middle and lower class workers responded by organizing unions and protesting through both peaceful and violent means. Eventually, government acts such as the fair labor standards (1938) created a minimum wage and the Department of Labor was created in 1913 for the purpose organizing and overseeing better conditions for workers
The American Civil War greatly caused a dramatic shift in style, form,
and thematic discourse in American literature because it affected the
people in a way that they question its morality and reality. The works
after the Civil War were mainly focused on how they experienced the war
and its effects. It also sparked some antiwar works and some focused
more on patriotism.
