Answer:

The plates will collide in 50,000,000 years.

Explanation:

The tectonic plates are constantly moving. Their movement results in some of them to collide, thus to form convergent plate boundaries. In this case, we have two plates that are relatively far away and the movement is about the average. In order to find out how many years will be needed for the plates to collide we need to:

  • convert the km into cm
  • divide the distance (in cm) between the plates with the rate of movement of the plate

1 km = 100,000 cm

100,000 x 1,500 = 150,000,000 cm

150,000,000 / 3 = 50,000,000 years

We get a result of 50 million years, meaning the plates will collide in this much time, which in geological terms is actually not that long.

Scientist have found fossils of ocean-dwelling or marine animals in the mountains of Pennsylvania. What does finding fossils of
Ostrovityanka [42]

Answer:

Before mountain building occurred, the area was underwater.

Explanation:

Through excavation, fossils that are of marine animals are often found high on mountain ranges. This seems weird from today's perspective, as marine animals can only be found in ocean waters, and there is no way they can travel on land and upon the mountains. Earth has changed a lot throughout history though, so such occurances are actually not that weird.

The mountains in Pennsylvania are such a place, with an abundance of marine fossils. When we look at the geological past of what is now Pennsylvania we can easily see why this is the case. The whole area was actually underwater for millions of years. This was the case before mountain building occurred here when part of the ocean floor raised high above the surface of the water and created land. As the crust was going up, the fossils on it went up as well.

The world’s supply of freshwater is increasing. Please select the best answer from the choices provided T F
alexandr402 [8]

Answer:

FALSE

Explanation:

The freshwater refers to all the naturally occurring water on the earth's surface such as rivers, streams, lakes, and glaciers. It does not include the sea and ocean water bodies.

This freshwater plays an important role in supporting the various life forms on earth as well as the ecosystem. Only about 3% of the total water present on the earth is freshwater.

This freshwater is affected by human activities very significantly. The rivers, streams, and lakes are constantly being polluted due to the following reasons such as the toxic chemicals released from the factories and industries mixes with the river, addition of fecal waste and solid waste materials to the water, thereby making the water unsuitable for drinking and other purposes.

Thus, the freshwater present in the world is constantly being degraded and decreasing.

Hence, the above-given statement is False.
