The settlement was peaceful, and two-thirds of those killed were women and children. It is estimated that between 70-500 Native Americans were killed and mutilated.

The homeland of the Phoenicians was on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean, were Lebanon and Syria's Mediterranean coast is nowadays. They were constantly traveling and trading though, so they made their own colonies in numerous parts of the Mediterranean coastline, as well as influencing lot of people in meantime.
The most famous colony, later a city-state, of the Phoenicians was Carthage. Carthage was based on the Phoenician culture, and the majority of its population were Phoenicians. Carthage was a trading center, a well organized city, constantly developing, wealthy, pretty much a city that was envied by lot of other civilizations. It was totally destroyed though by the Romans after the Punic wars, and only fragments of the city can be found to witness for it.
