Answer:

The equation of a linear function is:

  • y = 2x+4

Step-by-step explanation:

Given the table

x                    y

-10               -16

-3                 -2

1                    6

2                   8

Determining the slope between the points (-10, -16), (-3, -2)

\mathrm{Slope}=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}

\left(x_1,\:y_1\right)=\left(-10,\:-16\right),\:\left(x_2,\:y_2\right)=\left(-3,\:-2\right)

m=\frac{-2-\left(-16\right)}{-3-\left(-10\right)}

m=2

Determining the slope between the points (-3, -2), (1, 6)

m=\frac{6-\left(-2\right)}{1-\left(-3\right)}

m=2

Determining the slope between the points (1, 6),(2, 8)

m=\frac{8-6}{2-1}

m = 2

As the slope between the points is the same. Thus, the table represents the linear function.

Using the point-slope form of the line equation

y-y_1=m\left(x-x_1\right)

substituting the values m = 2 and any point let say (1, 6)

y - 6 = 2(x-1)

y-6 = 2x-2

y = 2x-2+6

y = 2x+4

Therefore, the equation of a linear function is:

  • y = 2x+4

Since they are right triangles use Pythagorean Theorem.
a^2 + b^2 = c^2 where c is the hypotenuse.

a.  12^2 + b^2 = 13^2
144 + b^2 = 169
subtract 144 from both sides
b^2 = 25
take the square root of both sides
t = 5  This is also know as a Pythagorean Triple 5-12-13

b.  a^2 + 9^2 = 12^2
     a^2 + 81 = 144
subtract 81 from both sides
a^2 = 63
take the square root of both sides
a = √63
a = √(9 * 7)
a = 3√7

c.   6^2 + 9^2 = c^2
    36 + 81 = c^2
117 = c^2
take the square root of each side
c = √117
c = √(9*13)
x = 3√13

[ f(x) = 3x + 2<br> g(x) = x2<br> Find gf(5)<br> Find fg(x)
marusya05 [52]

Answer:

gf(5) = 289.

fg(x) = 3x^2 + 2.

Step-by-step explanation:

f(5) =  3(5) + 2 = 17

So gf(5) = 17^2 = 289.

fg(x) =  3(x^2) + 2   (we replace the x in f(x) by g(x)).

= 3x^2 + 2.
