xxxxxxx News paper

Sub: Increase of street dogs in our area

Sir,

Through the columns of your highly esteemed paper , I want to draw the attention of the higher authorities to the increase of stray dos in our area.

For the last six months the number of stray dogs in the locality have increase manifold and the people living in this area have been terror striken by such dogs.  The situation has become alarming when several small school going children & old people have been bitten by these dogs.  It is generally very difficult for one to visit the house of a friend or relative.  People lost their sleep as dog bark whole night.  their groups are dangerous as they started attacking the passerby.  they run towards motor bike which lead to many accident in the area.

The municipal authorities should

look in to the matter and ensure proper solution for this series issue and public should also co-operate with the authorities to solve this problem.  I am hopeful you will give enough space to my views in your newspaper.

Thanking you

Yours truely

xxxxxx

"The Crucible" is an allegory, a symbolic story with different layers of meaning. Different characters and elements from "The Cr
cupoosta [38]

We can combine the elements of "The Crucible" with the elements of Red Scare/McCarthyism as follows:

  • A. Witchcraft = 6. Communism
  • B. Abigail Williams = 4. Senator McCarthy
  • C. The Devil's Book = 1. Blacklist
  • D. Salem Courts = 2. HUAC
  • E. John Proctor = 3. Arthur Miller
  • F. Hysteria = 5. The Red Scare
  • G. The Forest = 8. The Soviet Union
  • H. Accused Witches = 7. Suspected Communists

We can arrive at this answer because:

  • Arthur Miller, the screenwriter of "The Crucible" wanted to write a story that represented the moment of collective madness that was manifesting in the USA, due to fear of communism.
  • This wave of dread and madness was established by Senator McCarthy who started a wave of accusations from people involved in communism in the same way that Abigail Williams accused people of accusing people of witchcraft in play.
  • People accused of communism, who were tried by HUAC, are represented by people accused of witchcraft, who were tried by Salem Courts.
  • The Soviet Union was considered the cradle of communism and in the play, the forest was considered the place where witches arose.
  • For this reason, people became hysterical in fear of communism, just as in play people became hysterical in fear of witchcraft.
  • People accused of being involved in communism went into a kind of blacklist, just like in the play, where people accused of witchcraft are believed to have their name in the devil's book.

Arthur Miller set himself up as a play character, played by John Proctor, who tried to report on the abuses caused by Abigail, but ended up being heavily punished.
